Toenails Troubles Slowing Your Runs?
Toes are the weakest link for runners. Ingrown toenails can be very troublesome for many. The main cause of ingrown toenails is improper cutting and shoes that are too small or too narrow. This leads to pressure on the nail and causes the skin around the area to become inflamed. Now, if there’s excessive pressure on the nail against soft tissue from forefoot of shoe, then problems can occur. This makes the toe inflamed, enlarged, and puts lots of pressure on the toe. This excessive pressure will make the edge of the nail break the skin surface, allowing bacteria and fungi to creep in. This infection and swelling gets worse during warm weather and it will spread around the nail, which increases the pain and pressure more. You can relieve the pain of ingrown nails with the use of antibiotics, but certain ingrown nails are extremely severe that you need to see a podiatrist to have them removed. Please do not try to do this yourself, because you will most likely spread the infection and make it worse.
